Today I will write about a news published in The
Santiago Times on June 29, 2018, which is titled 'Jungle
Command': Piñera creates special force to tackle "terrorism"
in southern Chile. Although it is not
specifically about my career -it was difficult for me to find
anything related to archeology - I chose this article because it is
my interest to make this information visible at an international
level. Here, they talk about the introduction of a new contingent of
armed forces to a territory which is constantly in conflict of
interests between the Chilean state and the Mapuche culture, La
Araucanía, although they do not take sides from one side or the
other, they achieve in a few lines expose both points of view,
highlighting the uncertainty generated by the existence of this new
police quadrant with new war technologies, when the other side it is
not armed.
This type of economic injections in the area of state defense, shows,
as the Chilean state is focused on conflicts over violence, which is
certainly an uneven response, at the national level it is the small
publication that is made of these cases and when the great emphasis
is placed on the character of terrorism that is carried out in the
Mapuche culture, who in reality only demand and claim the territory
that ancestrally belonged to them and that throughout history, by
different foreign actors have tried to snatch it.
